50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind

October 25, 2010
photo via we heart it

Well, it's Monday. Again. Funny how that dreadful day always comes back around. And how awful that I now refer to Monday as dreadful? Must change this! Anyway, one of the tasks on my 101 in 1001 list is to complete the "50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind". So, enjoy!
  1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
    17. I still haven't completely realized that I'm technically an adult. I want so badly to believe that I don't have a care in the world. Ahh, wouldn't that be nice? :)
  2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
I want to say failing, but I know the answer is never trying! That's something I'm working on. I need to quit being afraid to fail and just do!
  3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
I don't know. I ask myself this question almost on a daily basis. I guess the answer is because in order to do the things we really want to do, we have to do the not-so-fun things. Like work, yuck! The trick is finding a balance and enough time to do the things you really want to in life.
  4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
This is a good possibility since I like to talk a lot, but hopefully I've done enough to show for all the talking I've done! haha
  5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
The devestation in third world countries. It's so sickening that just the American actors and athletes alone could provide for the majority of these people. The average yearly income of a Haitian is $400. It's not like they need much. I'm thankful that celebrities give, but I have a hard time applauding them for giving an amount anywhere in the thousands. These people make millions and could honestly do much more. If I had even a million dollars, I know I would do so much with it.
  6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Probably anything to do with children, missions, or charity. The payback you get from those sort of things is ridiculous
  7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
At the moment, settling for what I'm doing. Must change this.
  8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Probably be more aware of the time I had left and do everything I could to make sure I spent as much time as possible with the ones I love.
  9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
I'd say about 40%. If there is something I really want, I go for it, but God is the one in control whether I like it or not.
  10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing the right things. Of course I want to do things right, but I'm more concerned with doing the right things.
  11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
Stick up for my friend. Well, first of all let me say that anyone who criticizes my friends without justification is not someone I would admire in the first place. Secondly, people will respect you more in return if you stand up for what you believe in. My friends are so important to me and there is no way I'm just going to sit back and let someone say "distasteful" things about them. No siree.
  12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
To go after their dreams and not let anyone tell them they can't do something. Kind of cliche, but still true nonetheless.
  13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
I guess it depends on the situation. To save their life? Absolutely. To keep them out of trouble? Proably not.
  14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
    Umm, Andy Warhol?
  15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
    I have absolutely no clue.
  16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Because we're all different and have different interests. Duh..
  17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?
Pretty much everything I want to do has not happened yet because of money. So MONEY is holding me back!
  18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
I'll just say that I have a very hard time of letting go of things, whatever the situation may be. So I'll answer yes, and then say I'm working on it. :)
  19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
Tennessee, because it's beautiful and I have lots of family there.
  20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
No, once is most definitely enough.
  21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
    Joyful simpleton.
  22. Why are you, you?
Because God made me that way! And obviously the experiences that have helped shape me!
  23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
I think so. I know I can be difficult sometimes and I have my bitchy moods but I also am good to the ones I love. I'd do anything for them, and I'm pretty sure they know that. I don't ditch them and I'm loyal. Those are the things most important to me in a friendship.
  24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
When a good friend moves away. Of course its sad when you lose touch with a good friend, but people change and you don't always have the same things in common with old friends. I have experienced both and I have to say its much harder when they move away because you don't want to spend time apart but you have to! Miss you Jennifer!
  25. What are you most grateful for?
My loving family and caring friends.
  26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
Ah, I don't know. I keep going back and forth. I'm pretty young so I'd hate to not be able to make any new memories, but the ones I have are pretty awesome too!
  27. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
    Yes.
  28. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
Well, my biggest fears are spiders, going to sleep, and being alone. So all of the above accept being alone! I am surrounded by awesome people!
  29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
Yes and no, thankfully it does not. There are ups and downs in life and whether we want to believe it or not, life does go on, no matter how awful we may feel at the moment. "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.." -Ecclesiastes 3:1
  30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
    Too many to even name.
  31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
When I was on a missions trip in Haiti. The people of Prosper changed my life.
  32. If not now, then when?
August 2010 (& hopefully again in December! Yay for going back to Haiti!)
  33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
    Nothing.
  34. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
    No.
  35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
    Because we are only human.
  36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
    Yes.
  37. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
No, because there are a lot of people I want to give money to so it would go fast. A million dollars would not last very long in my hands!
  38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
Most definitely more work that I enjoy doing. Right now I'm working a job I never thought I would have. It's a typical 8 hr desk job and I can't believe I'm that person. Never in my life did I think this is what I'd be doing. It's not terrible, and most of the time its interesting, but its not what I'm passionate about!
  39. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Umm, maybe not 100 but a lot here in the past month or so! I'm at work (obviously not working, oops!) and wishing I were somewhere else!
  40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
    Umm, never?
  41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
Wow. Tough question. How in the world would you choose? I would definitely try and visit as many of them as I could, and for sure would not go to sleep! That sounds like a nightmare and thankfully that's pretty much impossible considering the people I love are spread around the globe!
  42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
Absolutely, positively not. No way would I even consider this.
  43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Being alive means you're just here, doing what you can to get through the day. Truly living, I believe, is when you are living your life for Jesus Christ and you know that his life is not the end. It's spending your time with the people who matter most and doing the things you are passionate about.
  44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
What does "calculating risk and rewards" mean? haha I never think anything through, which is probably a bad thing but sometimes its better to just stop thinking and just do!
  45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Because, although learning from our mistakes is an important step in self growth, making mistakes is no fun. Who actually wants to do that? Not I. :)
  46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I don't think I would have gone to college. I believe I can be successful doing what I want to do even without my degree, but I know society would have looked down on me.
  47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
Ya know, I have absolutely no clue. Is that something I should do? haha
  48. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
I love design. Every bit of it and pretty much everything I do reflects that.
  49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?
Not sure if I'll remember yesterday, today, or tomorrow but I know I have made lots of memories with lots of special people and I plan to continue doing just that.
  50. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
Always making them myself, but constantly trying to not let others influence me.

Dental Calling Cards via La Bella Vita Designs

October 21, 2010
My friend Lindsay is going to school for dental hygiene and they have real clients during their clinicals!

Lindsay had been writing her patient's next appointment down on a ripped off piece of paper, but that of course just doesn't fly with me!

Lindsay wanted something simple and what says dentist appointment more than a tooth? :)

The only picture I got was with my iPhone, so sorry for the poor quality of photo, but you get the idea! :)

Head on over to LBVD to order your very own calling cards or even this year's Christmas cards! It's never too early to start thinking about these things! :)

Invitation | Look Whooo's Turning One!

October 20, 2010

This is the invitation I did for Linley & Brian's little girl Layla's 1st Birthday party! I can't believe she is already a year old! Time seriously flies by! It seems like yesterday I was just doing her birth announcements. Brian and Linley are some of my favorite returning customers and I had so much fun doing this owl themed invitation to set the mood for their adorable party! Happy 1st Birthday Layla! :)

Day Zero | 101 in 1001

October 18, 2010

photography via

I just found out about this really cool project that's going on around in the blog world. The project is called Day Zero and it inspires you to set and achieve your personal goals in life. The challenge is to complete 101 tasks, that you write for yourself, in a period of 1001 days. That's approximately 2.75 years. I've already started a Life Goal List but those tasks tend to be long term things or things in the future.

This project is different because it can be tasks as simple as plucking my eyebrows (which by the way needs to be done, badly). I like this project because it makes you set a deadline and helps you beat procrastination, which is why my Life Goal List has yet to be completed! (Well, that and money!)

Anyway, 1001 days from now, July 16, 2013 (yikes!) I hopefully will have completed every little bit of my list!! Here goes nothing! Will you make your own 101 in 1001 list? Please do! :)

    October 15, 2010

Yay for Friday! This week has been a long one (even though I had Wednesday off for my grandmother's services)! It's been very emotional and tiring! It's weird that I am now a working woman who is excited for Friday! haha Friday used to be just like any other day! I don't think I'm too happy about that!

Tonight I might make it up to the high school football game! Go blue! :) But I'm for sure going to be enjoying a bonfire with my best friends! I'm so excited, it's going to be the perfect weather for it! Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

    RIP Jamie Nicole Bryant

    October 14, 2010
How is it even possible that 5 years has passed since Jamie was taken from our lives? It just doesn't even seem possible, but its reality. I often wonder what she'd be doing if she were alive today? School? Working? Married? Kids? Any of those things would be possible if she were. It kind of makes me sad that she's not here to do all of those things, but then I remember that she has it even better. She is in Heaven with her Heavenly Father where no one will ever hurt her, betray her, anger her, etc. She is always happy & always smiling. She's looking down on us and watching over and waiting for us. It's so comforting to know that although we have to say goodbye to people we love down here on Earth we know it's not goodbye forever. Because of the sacrifice Jesus made for us we will be reunited with those loved ones lost again.

Around the time of Jamie's birthday I wrote a song for her and I thought I'd share the lyrics of it here with you. If I could figure out how to share music on here I would share the recording I did of the song! Nothing special, but it comes from the heart!

I'm so thankful I was given the opportunity to know Jamie and for all the special memories I have of her. She was like a sister to me and I absolutely can not wait to see her again and am so thankful that I have that to rely on! :)

Hope everyone has a great day. Tell everyone you love them!
Oh yeah, I LOVE YOU :)

    Verse 1
    It was a Friday afternoon
    in the middle of October
She was headed home from school
to get ready for the big football game
    She didn't pay attention
    & then she lost control
    before she knew it
She was on her way home

    Chorus
    Forever Seventeen
    young, wild, & free
    She left us too early
but her memory always will remain
She's free from all the pain, the pain of this world
    Our angel, is finally home

    Verse 2
    The whole town gathered
at the high school that night
    They just couldn't believe it
there wasn't a dry eye in sight
& though the pain was thick
there was a ray of hope
She was no longer with us,
    but she was finally home

    Chorus
    Forever Seventeen
    young, wild, & free
    She left us too early
but her memory always will remain
She's free from all the pain, the pain of this world
    Our angel, is finally home

    Commitment. Why Do People Cheat?

    October 12, 2010
    image via we heart it

Commitment. Does it even really exist in today's world? It seems more and more, cheating in relationships is becoming the norm. Are we asking too much when we walk down the isle "for better or worse", that we expect a promise of fidelity? It seems that the act of marriage has become habit. People go through their vowels so routinely that I don't think much thought goes into what promise is actually being made. It's almost as if those going into a marriage are not too worried, because there is always the option of divorce. Ya know, just incase things don't work out as they had planned. Newsflash people, life never goes how you "plan" it to go. Divorce shouldn't even be crossing a person's mind who's about to take the plunge into holy matrimony. If two people have taken enough time to get to know each other and have truly made a commitment to one another, then we really are talking about "until death do us part", leaving no room, or the need for the matter, for divorce.

Because couples aren't fully making that commitment, this leads to cheating and drifting apart. Just because you are married doesn't mean the hard part is over. Marriage is the hard part! The divorce rate is up to something crazy like 50% because at the first sign of trouble, we're calling up the attorneys or finding someone else to give our attention to.

I come from a broken home as a result of infidelity, I have been in unfaithful relationships and I'm sad to say that I am as guilty as my partner was, and just about every relationship I know, has some form of infidelity present whether it be physical or emotional. So what gives? Why do people cheat? Is it for a sense of power? Security? Self-esteem? Or just our own selfish reasons in this me, me, me world we live in? Maybe people cheat for all of these reasons.

With my parents relationship, I just don't think my father was committed to my mother or our family at the time. They rushed into their marriage and didn't realize that if they took an honest look at their relationship, they probably would have noticed that they have absolutely nothing in common. But shew, thank goodness they got together or I wouldn't be able to grace your presence today! ;)

When it comes to men cheating on me? Hell, who knows? I'm a great catch! ;) When I take a look in the mirror and ask myself why did I cheat? Hmm, good question. Because I'm a horrible person I guess. No, that's not it, but really. It doesn't make any sense that I, coming from a broken home and also knowing how it feels to be cheated on, would do that to another person. In my defense I will say that the relationship I was in was very unhealthy and I think I cheated because I knew I was being cheated on. Does it make it right? No, of course not, but that's how it is.

I've always said that I'll never give up on love, and I still believe that, although I have to wonder. Can we really have faith in love if we fall into this idea that everyone cheats? I've let past experiences and experiences of others around me influence me and basically make me scared to fall in love again. Yes, hundreds of thousands of people cheat in their relationships everyday, but what they're really doing is cheating themselves.

I do believe there are many people out in this world that we could be compatible with or that we have chemistry with, but I also believe there is that one person who is our soulmate. The challenge is finding that person that completes you, and although the urge to stray from your relationship may never completely go away, your will to say will outweigh that urge. Temptation will always be there, its a fact of life, but do us all a favor and do not stay, "I do" unless you are absolutely certain this is the person you want to be with and you can't live without them.

DIY | Lace Seating Chart via Hey Gorgeous

    October 11, 2010
I can not tell you how much I love this idea for a table numbers chart display! It's functional yet so romantic, delicate, and vintage! Not to mention, I love lace so it's just perfect! Rhiannon over at Hey Gorgeous shared this over on her blog and is also in the running for a DIY wedding project contest over at Ruffled! I seriously need to have a dinner party or something because I have so many ideas and I've been inspired by so many projects I've seen that I can hardly stand it! :)

    Fly to Jesus & Live

    October 10, 2010
    My beautiful Grandma :)
    RIP
    03.06.30-10.10.10

Today at 1:10 PM my Grandma Shirley finally went home to Jesus. It's never easy to say goodbye but I find comfort in knowing that she is now in heaven with Jesus and her loved ones who went before her and she is no longer confused. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and I'm so thankful she doesn't have to deal with it any longer. When we first got to the nursing home to say our last goodbyes, my Grandma's mouth was open just slightly. Within a few short minutes her mouth slowly began to close and she began smiling. It was such a blessing. It was as if she was letting us know she had made it to Heaven and she was happy now. It kind of freaked the Hospice nurse out. haha She said she always sends them to the funeral home with their mouths still open! But anyway, that was kind of special!

This week has been so long and my entire family is exhausted. It's been so nice to spend so much time with everyone, even if it was under these circumstances. We went to Olive Garden tonight for dinner and that was a nice end to the day!

I'll never forget my Grandma and will always be grateful for her. Although she technically was my step-grandmother, she never treated my sister or I any different than the other grandkids. She was amazing and I know she loved us all so much.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers! I love you :)

"..& with your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye, then go in peace & laugh on glory's side.. & fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus & live."

    The Perfect 10

Ok, again I know I say this every time a month passes, but I can. not. believe. it! How is it October already? I'm so sad this year is just flying by! I can't believe its already the 10th either! Crazy! Anyway, I made a few changes around the blog. I changed the layout and added a little Halloween flair. I was tired of my "fall" layout already (that didn't take long).

I've been kind of MIA this week. My Grandma Shirley has Alzheimer's and she's in the final stage. We've been with her pretty much night and day since last Tuesday. It's so hard to see her like this. It's amazing the woman is still holding on. She hasn't had anything to eat or drink for a week. Healthy people die after only 3 days without water. It just doesn't make sense. But, I suppose God has a plan even if I don't agree with it, like it, or get it. I hope she can finally go home to him and rest, she has to be exhausted.

Today I'm going to my grandparents for lunch and then we're headed back to the nursing home. On an up side (if there is an up side), I've gotten to spend a lot of time with my family, and they're pretty great too. Thank you to all my wonderful friends for being there and for your prayers and calls. It means a lot to me. You guys are awesome.

Hope everyone has a good day!
    With love,
